National Standard Examination (NSE) 2026 Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT)

About IAPT

The Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT) is a national organisation established in 1984 with the objective of improving the quality of Physics teaching and supporting teachers and students in science education.


Examinations Offered

Students can participate in the following National Standard Examinations:

  • NSEP – National Standard Examination in Physics
  • NSEC – National Standard Examination in Chemistry
  • NSEB – National Standard Examination in Biology
  • NSEA – National Standard Examination in Astronomy
  • NSEJS – National Standard Examination in Junior Science

The examinations are conducted at designated NSE centres across India.


Eligibility Criteria

NSEP, NSEC, NSEB & NSEA

For the 2026 examinations, students must:

  • Be studying in Class 10, 11 or 12 as on 30 November 2026.
  • Be born between 1 July 2007 and 30 June 2012, both dates inclusive..
  • Prepare according to the syllabus up to Class XII CBSE level.

NSEJS – Junior Science

Students must:

  • Be studying in Class 8, 9 or 10 as on 30 November 2026.
  • Be born between 1 January 2012 and 31 December 2013, both dates inclusive.
  • Prepare Physics, Chemistry and Biology up to Class X CBSE level.

Important: A student appearing for NSEJS cannot simultaneously appear for NSEP, NSEC, NSEB or NSEA, and vice versa.

The examinations will be held at the respective NSE centres.


Exam Pattern

For the NSE examinations, the question paper is designed at the national-standard level.

The 2026 student brochure specifies 48 multiple-choice questions with one correct alternative for the senior NSE examinations. Correct answers carry +3 marks, while an incorrect answer carries a 1-mark penalty.

Question papers are available in English and Hindi, with several Indian-language options available for students where specified during registration.


Registration & Enrolment

Students can enrol through their school/college or a registered NSE centre.

If a student's school or college is not functioning as an NSE centre, the student may approach another registered centre. IAPT also provides an option for individual online enrolment.

Student Enrolment

21 August – 14 September 2026

Students can enrol either through the centre in-charge or individually through the online system.

Centre Registration

Recognised schools, senior secondary schools, high schools, junior colleges and college/university departments can register as NSE centres.

Centre registration: 1–20 August 2026.


Registration Fee

The examination fee is:

₹300 per student per subject/examination

Students can opt for more than one eligible NSE subject, subject to the applicable eligibility rules.

Last date for student enrolment: 14 September 2026


How to Register

  1. Check the eligibility requirements for the examination you wish to take.
  2. Identify your school/college or a registered NSE centre.
  3. Complete the student enrolment process.
  4. Select the required examination/subject.
  5. Pay the applicable ₹300 per subject examination fee.
  6. Complete the registration within the specified deadline.
  7. Download/retain the relevant registration details and examination information.
  8. Appear at the allotted NSE centre on the examination date.

Students who face difficulty enrolling through their institution can use the individual online enrolment facility provided by IAPT.

Standard Examination in High School Science (SEHSS) – 2026

IAPT is also conducting the Standard Examination in High School Science (SEHSS–2026) for high-school students who could not enrol for NSEJS.

  • Level: Up to Class 10
  • Subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology
  • Weightage: Equal weightage to all four subjects
