About Us

 

Panini Linguistics Olympiad is the Indian national program for selection and training of the candidates who represent India at the International Linguistics Olympiad (IOL).The program is coordinated by Microsoft Research Labs India, International Institute of Information Technology Hyderabad, JNU Delhi and the University of Mumbai & is actively supported by regional coordinators across the country including Chennai Mathematical Institute, IIT Guwahati, SNLTR Kolkata, and IIT Patna. The main purpose of PLO is to create awareness of linguistics amongst students of the country, and popularize the fields of linguistics and computational linguistics as areas of further study and research.

 

About the Competition

PLO is a fun, exciting, educational, challenging, puzzling, linguistic competition for students studying in grades 6th to 8th (Juniors) and 9th to 12th (Seniors). This competition helps foster problem solving, computational thinking and appreciation for the linguistic diversity and linguistics in general.

 

Eligibility Criteria

 

  • If the candidate is studying in school, then your grade decides in which category you are eligible to participate i.e. Class 6 to Class 8 are eligible to participate for the Junior contest and Class 9 to Class 12 are eligible to participate for the Senior contest.
  • Contestants who have represented India at IOL 2023 are eligible for direct entry to the Invitational Round camp, and need not appear for the Round 1 contest.

NOTE – Carry your School ID & Identity proof.
