Selecting an Ideal Career Path!!

27
Feb

Career path is different from the job that you land up into after your degree program is successfully completed. There is nothing like an ideal career. Having stated this, I mean that everybody has a career option that is cut out for them. One size doesn’t fit all stands aptly correct here.

The major challenges faced by them in making this decision include

  • Availability of many options after graduation
  • Fear of unknown – what would the journey be like
  • Multi-dimensional personality traits that make the decision even more confusing
  • What if – the decision taken turns out to be a wrong decision and resources and efforts go waste

Amidst all the confusion, there is always a silver lining. Here are a few tips that help in choosing the right career path for you.

Make a mind map

Set a clear goal for yourself, of where you see yourself a few years down the lane, including the major stops that will come in your way.

Personality matters

Your personality type is a huge decisive factor for your career. An extrovert person landing in a research field where individual work is to be taken up might not be able to do justice to the work environment. While an introvert put in an event managing situation shall also be a mis-match. It is important to know your personality type and then list down the careers that would be a perfect fit for you.

Make a list of careers that do not interest you

More than the knowledge of what interests you, the knowledge of what doesn’t interest you helps a lot in taking decisions. Rule out the careers or the job profiles that you will not be ready to pursue under any circumstances.

Research the options well

The options that are left after ruling out the not-interested careers have to be researched well. Figure out which ones are more interesting for you and what is the scope in the coming ten years.

Consult a career counsellor

Career counsellors have the knowledge of almost all the careers. Based upon your profile, strength, weaknesses and personality type, they would be able to guide you better through your journey of career selection.

Believe in yourself

Once a decision has been taken, stick to it. It is not that the decision can’t be altered, but the rerouting option should come into picture only once you know that you have given your best to the choice that was earlier finalized.

Wishing you the very best through your career selection!!
