Chennai Mathematical Institute - 2023

Chennai Mathematical Institute is a centre of excellence for teaching and research in the mathematical sciences. It was founded in 1989 as a part of the SPIC Science Foundation, funded by the SPIC group in Chennai. Since 1996, it has been an autonomous institution.CMI is managed by a Governing Council consisting of eminent persons. Today, CMI is a rare example of public-private partnership in research and education in India. The Institute receives major private funding, side by side with substantial financial support from the Government of India.

The main areas of research at CMI are Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics. In addition to a vibrant PhD programme, the Institute conducts BSc programmes in Mathematics and Computer Science as well as Mathematics and Physics, along with MSc programmes in Mathematics, Applications of Mathematics and Computer Science.

 

 

Courses Offered:

 

 

  • B.Sc  (Hons) in mathematics and computer science
  • B.Sc  (Hons) in mathematics and physics

 

 

Eligibility Criteria:

 

 

  • 12th Standard or equivalent
  • There is a common entrance examination for both the B.Sc. (Hons.) programmes. You need not select your course at the time of applying. The choice can be made after admission

 

 

How To Apply:

 

For all programmes other than Ph.D. Physics, applicants will have to take an entrance examination. The entrance examinations for 2023-24 will take place on 7 May, 2023 at centres across the country.Students with exceptionally good performance in the National Olympiads in Mathematics and Physics conducted by HBSCE and the Indian Computing Olympiad conducted by IARCS are exempted from writing the BSc entrance examination.

Typically, the following categories of students qualify for direct admission:

 

  • Students who have qualified either for the International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp — IMOTC (or equivalent, in 2021/2022), or the European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad (EGMOTC) in Class 11 or Class 12.
  • Students who have qualified for the Orientation Cum Selection Camp (OCSC) in Physics (or equivalent, in 2021/2022), in Class 11 or Class 12.
  • Students who have qualified for the International Olympiad in Informatics Training Camp — IOITC, or have received a gold or silver medal at the Indian National Olympiad in Informatics (INOI) in Class 11 or Class 12, or have represented India at EGOI.
