Oct

Being established in 1875, the India Metrological Department (IMD) is completing 150 years of service to the nation in 2024-2025. IMD is among the earliest government departments created specifically for systematic observation, regular reporting, and scientific forecasting of weather phenomena in the Indian subcontinent. In a way evolution of Meteorology as a stream of modern physical science, owes a lot to the contribution made by scientists and technologists who were associated with IMD during its glorious hundred fifty years of journey.

To commemorate the milestone of 150 years, IMD is planning a yearlong celebration starting January 2024. During this period, IMD will launch a series of events, exhibitions, and international scientific seminars besides interactive sessions with students to encourage them to explore meteorology and atmospheric sciences careers.
