About HSEE

 

The Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Examination or HSEE is a national level entrance test conducted every year by Indian Institute of Technology Madras for admission to the master programme offered by the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) of the institute.

 

About HSS

 

The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) is one of the earliest departments at IITM. The department is essentially multi-disciplinary in nature and has faculty from diverse streams, such as Development Studies, Economics, English, Environmental Studies, Film Studies, Health Studies, History, International Relations, Philosophy, Politics, and Sociology. The department offers doctoral programmes in humanities and social sciences besides elective courses for the undergraduate and post-graduate programmes of the Institute. Since 2006-07, the department has been offering a five-year integrated Master of Arts (M.A.) programme. With the launch of this programme, the IITM has crossed a milestone in fulfilling its role in higher education in liberal arts and social sciences in the country. This has opened avenues for highly motivated students in arts and humanities to enter IITM.

Eligibility

 

Qualifying Examination

A Candidate should have appeared in any one of the following qualifying examinations for the first time in either 2021 or 2022.  The final examination of the 10+2 system

Age

Candidates whose date of birth falls on or after October 01, 1997 are eligible for HSEE2022

Exam Pattern For HSEE-2022

 

HSEE-2022 is of three hours duration and has two parts.

Part I consists of objective type multiple choice questions for 2½ hours duration (150 minutes), administered through computer.

Part II involves essay writing for 30 minutes to be written on answer sheet distributed to the candidates at the end of Part I.

One hour compensatory (extra) time (50 minutes for Part I and 10 minutes for Part II) will also be allowed to the candidates with 40%

or more disability.

 

Part I covers the following topics:

  1. English and Comprehension Skill;

  2. Analytical and Quantitative Ability;

  3. General Studies covering the areas of

 (a) Indian Economy,

(b) Indian Society and Culture,

(c) World Affairs ;

(d) Environment and Ecology.

Part II requires the candidates to write an essay on general topic involving description, or/and reflection or/and discussion.

Negative marks may be awarded for incorrect answers in Part I.

Last Date for submission of Online application - April 27, 2022.

Payment made by Indian Bank E-Challan - April 28,2022

Admit Card can be Downloaded from the HSEE Website by Candidates  May 30, 2022 to June 12, 2022.
