About Us

 

Indian Statistical Institute (ISI) is a public university which is recognized as an Institute of National Importance by the 1959 act of the Indian parliament. It grew out of the Statistical Laboratory set up by Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis in Presidency College, Kolkata. Established in 1931, this unique institution of India is one of the oldest institutions focused on statistics. Primary activities of ISI are research and training of statistics, development of theoretical statistics and its applications in various natural and social sciences. Key areas of ISI are statistics, computer science, mathematics, mathematical economics, operations research and information science and it is one of the few research oriented Indian schools offering courses at both the undergraduate and post graduate level.

There are 4 ISI Campuses in India namely, ISI Kolkata (Headquarter), ISI Bangalore, ISI Delhi & ISI Tezpur.

 

 

Courses Offered

 

  • BSc Statistics [Hons] (3 years) - Kolkata.

  • BSc Mathematics [Hons] (3 years) - Bangalore.

  • BSc Statistical Data Science [Hons] (4 years) - Kolkata, Bangalore & Delhi
    Students completing the four-year B SDS (Hons.) program can opt for an extra year of course work, and those successfully completing the five-year program will receive the Integrated Masters Degree in Statistical Data Science. The courses will be taught in the hybrid mode with the teacher being present in one of the centres and the other centres connected by video conferencing. 

     

NOTE - Each candidate gets Stipend of Rs 5000 per month & Contigency Grant of Rs 5000 per year once enrolled for the course. Keeping in mind the performance of the candidate in each semester.

 

Eligibility Criteria

 

Candidate should be 12th pass from Any Stream with Mathematics / Statistics and English from recognised board or equivalent.
 

 

Selection Process

 

MODE 1 -
Candidate is required to fulfill the eligibility criteria, appear for ISI Entrance Exam and Interview for getting admission into the ISI.


NOTE - ISI Enrtrance test for BSc Statistical Data Science - The level of the test will be similar to the JEE Mathematics test.
 

MODE 2 -
INMO Channel of Admission There is a separate provision for applicants who have been selected as INMO AWARDEES to participate in the International Mathematics Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC) in the years 2023 and 2024 based on their performance in the Indian National Mathematics Olympiad (INMO), conducted by the National Board of Higher Mathematics, Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India. Such candidates are also required to apply through the Application Portal.   There will be NO Written Test, and the selection to these supernumerary seats will be based on Interview.

 


Exam Pattern

 

The question paper with be divided into 2 sections - MCQs & Descriptive Questions. All the questions will be of the level of class 12th Mathematics.
