A large number of aspirants move to various parts of the world to complete their higher studies every year. The global educational system has broadened tremendously to accommodate and welcome students of all academic backgrounds and interests. This is a wide ocean of opportunities for students who wish to study abroad and make a successful career ahead.

For entrance to various international universities, there are a number of exams that are held to get admission. These exams are not only for the qualifying purpose, but also help in gaining scholarships and other financial aids. Some of the most popular, and most important international entrance exams include the SAT, MCAT, LSAT, GMAT, GRE, IELTS and the TOEFL. These are required for admission to universities and colleges in various countries across the globe.

  • SAT: The Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) test is required for entry into some universities in US and Singapore, and also some colleges in The UK, Australia and Canada. It tests grammar and the Subject Test is conducted to check a candidate's knowledge in the subject chosen. The SAT exam is held seven times a year, and dates are specified accordingly. The SAT score is valid for 2 years.

Eligibility: The College Board, which is the conducting body of the SAT exam, has not laid down any specific criteria for the students wanting to appear for the exam. However, students who want to apply for undergraduate studies abroad are required to have successfully completed their high school education to move to the next level of their learning.

Subjects for SAT: The SAT exam comprises of three sections viz reading, writing and language, and mathematics. There is also an optional essay section.

 

  • MCAT and LSAT: The MCAT (Medical College Admission Test) is a multiple-choice test that is designed to evaluate the examinee's aptitude and knowledge about relevant subjects. It is beneficial for admissions to medical colleges in the US. Though, the centers are located abroad.

The LSAT is administered by the Law School Admission Council for students who wish to pursue a career in law in the USA, Australia and Canada. Candidates who want to pursue the Law programme from United States, Canada and Australia will have to clear the LSAT test. The test is held once, on a date chosen by the Pearson group in India.

Eligibility: Students applying for LSAT must have qualified 12th board examination of 10+2 pattern from CBSE or any other recognized equivalent state educational board.

 

  • TOEFL and IELTS: The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) probably top the list with regard to the huge number of students across the world needing to undertake one or the other to demonstrate English language proficiency. The widest possible selection of universities and colleges accept TOEFL scores, including the top 100 in the UK, US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The TOEFL is held throughout the year, usually on weekends. The IELTS, conducted by the British Council, is held in 71 centers spread all over the country, over four times a month.

Eligibility: For TOEFL, the candidate must have passed 10+2 from any institute. For appearing in IELTS, the candidate must hold a passport, should be 16 years and above of age, applicable if planning to study in UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand and USA.
